NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FEDERAL JUDGE

The Honorable Faith S. Hochberg is a nationally recognized Federal District Court Judge and former United States Attorney known for her broad experience spanning judicial, federal law enforcement and financial institution regulatory top level positions.

Born in Nutley in 1950, Judge Hochberg grew up in Nutley and attended Nutley schools until her family moved in 1967. She earned a B.A., and graduated summa cum laude, from Tufts University and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She then went on to Harvard Law School, and graduated magna cum laude earning her Juris Doctor Degree, where she was an Editor of the Harvard Law Review. She also attended the London School of Economics.

Judge Hochberg has an extensive resume. Early in her career, she was a law clerk to Spottswood William Robinson Ill of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. She then became a special assistant to the Chairman of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. She started a private practice in Newark which continued from 1977 to 1983 and then became an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of New Jersey from 1983 to 1987. From 1987 to 1990, she was in private practice with Cole, Schotz, Bernstein, Meisel and Forman in Hackensack. She was a senior Deputy Chief Counsel for the Office of Thrift Supervision in the United States Department of the Treasury from 1990 to 1993, and was a Deputy Assistant Secretary for Law Enforcement in the Department of Treasury from 1993 to 1994.

Judge Hochberg was twice nominated by President Clinton, and confirmed by the Senate, first as United States Attorney (1994 to 1999), and then as a United States District Judge (1999 to 2015). During her tenure, she presided over thousands of federal cases, including large class actions, securities, banking, patents and intellectual property, pharmaceuticals, antitrust, insurance, ERISA, corporate contract, and others.

In 2015, Judge Hochberg retired from the bench to found Hochberg ADR, LLC, which provides mediation, arbitration, and court strategy and advisory services in high profile, complex matters in national and international litigation. She is also a frequent speaker both nationally and internationally on patent law, class actions, employment law, and alternative dispute resolution.
