2015 Hall of Fame Inductee – Ken Eulo

Novelist, Playwright and Director

Ken Eulo is the author of thirteen novels, five of which were national bestsellers,
that sold over thirteen million copies. He has also written for several television
series. As a Eugene O’Neill award-winning playwright, his work has been produced
on Broadway and Lincoln Center in New York City, and at regional theaters, notably
Hartford Stage and Long Wharf Theatre in Connecticut; Goodman Theatre in
Chicago; and Arena Stage in Washington, D. C.

Ken Eulo was born in Nutley and is a 1957 graduate of Nutley High School. After
attending the Pasadena Playhouse in 1960, Mr. Eulo went abroad to continue
his theater education at the University of Heidelberg. Soon after, he assumed
artistic directorship of the Frankfurt Playhouse in Germany and created the famed
International Arts Exchange Program where he toured the plays An Enemy of the
People, Romeo and Juliet, and King Lear throughout Europe. During that time
Ken directed over one hundred and fifty plays and worked with Robert DeNiro,
Geraldine Page, Rip Torn, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman, Julie Harris, Jodi Foster, Jon
Voight, Anthony Quinn, and a host of others.

Mr. Eulo believes he’s been privileged to have directed three generations of actors
– On and Off Broadway, Regional Theater, and Summer Stock – and owes a special
debt of gratitude to Rex Harrison, Betty Grable, Ray Milland, Robert Preston, Van
Johnson, Shelley Winters and Jack Lemmon for their shared knowledge and pursuit
of excellence in acting.

Writing in Hope Floats, the booklet Ken wrote in honor of the Class of 1957’s High
School Reunion, he states “You can take the boy out of Nutley, but you can’t take
Nutley out of the boy.” As he continues to direct, write and teach theater on the
East and West Coasts, he recalls that it all began in Nutley, directing for the Nutley
Barn Theatre and teaching Creative Dramatics for children aged three to seven at
the Nutley Public Library.

Mr. Eulo’s book, ACTING/The Five lnevitable Elements, which covers all aspects of
acting, is due to be published in the spring of 2016.
