Steve Politi is a sports columnist for “The Star-Ledger” in Newark, N.J. The 1990 Nuttley High graduate started his journalism career as a 15-year-old at “The Nutley Sun,” where he covered the sports exploits of his classmates. He was sports editor of “The Daily Tar Heel” at the University of North Carolina, where he was graduated in 1994, and worked for four years at “The News & Observer” in Raleigh, North Carolina. He was hired as a sports enterprise reporter at ‘The Star-Ledger” in 1998 and becarne a columnist in 2005. In his15 years at the newspaper, he has covered stories on four different continents, including every major event from the Olympics to the Super Bowl.
Politi was twice named one of the top 10 sports columnists in the United States by the
Associated Press, and won a National Headliner Award for a series about the exploitation of Nigerian basketball players. He has also won numerous local awards.
Steve Politi and his wife, Nancy, have two children. He lived the first half of his life in
Nutley, and now lives in Montclair.
