2015 Hall of Fame Inductee – Susan Narucki

Grammy Award Winning Soprano

Susan Narucki is a Grammy award-winning soprano known internationally
for her luminous tone, superb musicianship and distinctive artistry. She has
performed in over one hundred world premiers collaborating with many
of the world’s leading composers. Appearances include performances with
Pierre Boulez and the Cleveland Orchestra, Michael Tilson Thomas and the
San Francisco Symphony, John Adams and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the
Schoenberg and Asko Ensembles on Great Performers at Lincoln Center, and
at the Netherlands Opera.

Ms. Narucki’s extensive discography includes operas of Louis Andriessen,
music of Mario Davidovsky, and song cycles of Aaron Jay Kernis. Her 2008
release, The Light that ls Felt: Songs of Charles lves, was an Editor’s Choice
of BBC Music Magazine. She can be heard on Sony Classical, Philips, and
Decca as well as many other major labels. She has both a Grammy for
her work on George Crumb’s Star-Child with the Warsaw Philharmonic
and a Cannes Award-winning CD for Best Recording of Works by a Living
Composer.

Ms. Narucki’s creative projects have earned major grants from the Creative
Capital Foundation, MAP Fund for the Performing Arts/Doris Duke
Charitable Foundation, UC MEXUS (the University of California Center for
Mexico and the United States), the University of California and the National
Endowment for the Arts. She is the artistic director of Cuatro Corridos
(2013) a chamber opera addressing human trafficking. Cuatro Corridos
has earned critical acclaim with performances in San Diego, Los Angeles,
Albuquerque, Tijuana, Dallas and Mexico City.

Ms. Narucki was born in Belleville and was a resident of Nutley for more
than 20 years. She currently serves on the faculty of the University of
California at San Diego, where she directs kallisti, an ensemble comprised
of graduate students from UC San Diego and distinguished guest artists.
Kallisti creates exceptional collaborations and presents new and creative
works for voice in chamber opera and concert settings.
