Dr. Angela Christiano is a 1983 graduate of Nutley High School. In 1996, Dr. Christiano’s hair suddenly began falling out and she was diagnosed with alopecia areata. Dr. Christiano, a molecular geneticist at Columbia University, decided then to make it her life’s work to discover the genetic regulation of hair growth. Her major focus of research is the study of inherited skin and hair disorders in humans with an emphasis on prevention of genetic diseases through early diagnosis.

Dr. Christiano and her team of researchers discovered new genes involved in hair growth. With the compelling story of her personal history and breakthrough discoveries of new genes, Dr. Christiano has become an international spokesperson on hair loss.
